The Philadelphia Gryphons are pleased to announce that Rugby 101 is taking place on August 9th from 11:00 am-1:00 pm at Lanier Park (29th & Tasker). There is no rugby or other sport experience needed to attend 101 or to join the Gryphons! After Rugby 101, starting at 2:00 pm, please join our Rookie Appreciation event at Ubar (21+) to celebrate the previous season's rookies!
You can RSVP here: https://forms.gle/ode1K48jC4fzdGy3A
Rugby 101 will include introductions from team leadership, returning players, and new players, different games to get everyone moving, and then teaching some of the basic rugby skills. It is very normal for us to get newcomers in their 20s, 30s, and 40s who have never played a sport before in their lives, so please understand that you are welcome at this event regardless of your athletic experience or background.
If you already own cleats or a mouthguard, please bring those along for 101. Otherwise, athletic clothes, athletic shoes, water, and sunscreen are all you need. We will be playing on grass, so try to pick clothing and shoes you would be okay with getting muddy or dusty depending on the weather. There is no need to purchase any specific equipment for 101.
As Philadelphia's inclusive rugby program, the Gryphons encourage inclusion, athleticism, and community through rugby. We welcome all regardless of orientation, identity, age, race, or ability level, and we look forward to meeting you soon as we embark on an amazing fall season!
