We will be celebrating the beginning of the Gryphons Fall 2011 season with a pre-season social. Come out to the Westbury (13th & Spruce) this Friday 8/26 starting at 7:00. The Westbury has officially signed on for another year of sponsoring the Gryphons. They will be hosting our drink ups as well as providing financial sponsorship for the team.

Lets show our appreciation for the Westbury and celebrate the official start of Gryphons Fall Rugby. I hope hope to see everyone there!

One of the highlights of the team’s schedule is IGRAB’s Mark Kendall Bingham Memorial Tournament, a bi-annual event that brings together the world’s gay rugby teams from Europe, North America, Australia and Oceania. Affectionately called the Bingham Cup, the tournament is named after Mark Bingham, a former University of California, Berkeley rugby star who died in the September 11, 2001 attacks. It is popularly believed that Mark, along with others, prevented the hijackers on United Airlines Flight 93 from reaching their target in Washington, D.C.

The Bingham Cup will be held in Manchester, England on June 2012. The Gryphons need your financial assistance to travel to England; that is why we are reaching out to our community to ask for your support by attending our annual Beef and Beer event. We will be having a silent auction where you may bid on donated items. This auction, along with a portion of the ticket proceeds, will be used to aid in sending the Gryphons to Manchester.
